How to connect RPM Sensor to 1985 Porsche 911?

Postby K911 » Wed May 29, 2013 1:56 am

I just purchased the RPM sensor for my traqmate complete system installed on a 1985 Porsche 911 (3.2 motor with stock ignition. coil, tach) Does anyone know where/how to connect the traqmate RPM sensor wire? Directly to the back of the tachometer and connected to which lead? or to the positive or negative side of the coil? Does the SU need to be set to E or C?

I searched this forum, Pelican Parts, and Google, but could not find a clear answer for an 1985 911, so any shared experience would be appreciated.

Thanks!

My best guess would be to set TraqData device for 'C' = coil and connect to negative side of coil. If you have a capacitive discharge ignition system this may not work but it will not damage anything.

Connecting to the tach signal wire is also a good bet with the 'C' setting.

My new traqmate RPM sensor now appears to be working correctly. I found a Pelican post which ID'd the correct lead (black/violet) wire connecting to the back of the 1985 911 tachometer, and tapped the RPM sensor lead in to that wire. I did not need to run the sensor wire back to the coil, and set new my traqdash to the correct # of cylinders (6). Will check further at track this weekend. Thanks for your help.
